After school earlier this week, ETA Emma Barnes joined some of her fellow teachers and new friends at a local restaurant to celebrate Ibu Rumini’s birthday and enjoy some delicious mie ayam. It was just one of the many Indonesian foods Emma has had the opportunity to try this past month.
She began teaching in mid-August and will begin her English club activities the week of September 3 where she will try to teach her students about the English language and about the realities of life in America. She has been overwhelmed by and appreciative of the kindness and generosity she has received from her school community in the weeks since her arrival at site and looks forward to spending time with her fellow teachers in the coming months (once she beefs up her Bahasa Indonesia skills, of course).
