A Day Full of Yes

a day full of yes

The first unit that ETA Riley Heist taught at her sight was based on “planning”. The students spent the first lesson in the unit playing “four corners” as they made imaginary plans to visit countries all over the world to meet their idols, eat their favorite foods, and take pictures to, of course, post on Instagram.

For the second lesson, Riley wanted to make the lesson more relatable and more “real life” in order to help pique the students interest. She pulled out a variety of old maps that she had brought from the US in addition to multiple tourist brochures and menus from her hometown of Bar Harbor, Maine. She created a mock travel agent form that she gave to students, along with the travel materials of maps, brochures, and menus, and asked them to plan a vacation. The students were immediately excited when they saw the materials, and their interest lasted the entire lesson as they looked through pictures, asked about food items, and came across new vocabulary.

Riley Heist is currently teaching at SMAN 10 Samarinda, East Kalimantan
