Blake Lapin
Award Year: 2019

Blake graduated from Claremont McKenna College with a dual bachelor’s degree in politics, philosophy, and economics (PPE) and literature. He spent the fall of 2017 in Bali and Jogjakarta to study the art and religion of the two regions. He became enthralled by the historical influences on the cultures and how they manifested themselves in the practice of local art and religion. He is especially interested in how culture is currently changing with the spread of globalization and westernization on the shoulders of tourism and media. He hopes to facilitate conversations within the school and community about such changes and the agency of such changes. Blake’s Indonesian is baik-baik saja tapi perlu menjadi lebih baik. He hopes that through these conversations and the mutual study of English and Bahasa Indonesian students will possess the resources to leverage their skills in a shifting economy.

He will be teaching at SMKN 1 Turen in Malang, East Java.
