February was a busy month for ETA Anna Misenti as she and her co-teachers assisted students in preparing for the WORDS competition. Throughout the month Anna was amazed by her students’ progress as they shifted from being intimidated by the task of developing their own creative stories, illustrating their books, and practicing their talents and performances.

On February 22, 14 of Anna’s students participated in the competition at SMAN 1 Padangsidimpuan, with stories on topics that ranged from the environment to youtube to politics. It was an inspiring moment to see her students performing in front of a large audience after so many weeks of watching their hard work and dedication.

The following week, on February 28, she and her co-teacher invited all the participants out for a celebration meal at a local restaurant, where they all enjoyed lots of laughs and a meal of ayam penyet, soto and juice. As exciting as the competition was, Anna’s highlight was getting to know her students better through outings like this one, and witnessing their creativity firsthand throughout the process.
