As a 2019-20 US Student Fulbright Researcher, she is working with Dr. Wa Iba at University Halu Oleo in Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi on a project titled, “The Future of Tourism: Conservation Strategies in Wakatobi National Park.” This research aims to analyze the ecological and social impacts of three different tourism operations within the national park—high-end resort tourism, volunteer tourism, and homestay based tourism. The aim of the project is to recommend best tourism management practices to the Indonesian government that foster marine conservation and sustainable livelihoods for local people.
Before her Fulbright award, Chloe studied the effects of tourism on coastal communities across Indonesia for seven months as a Boren Scholar.
