Futuhat al-Makkiyah is a magnum opus of over 10,000 pages, written by the greatest master (Shaykh al-Akbar), often in his own hand but mostly dictated to a circle of friends, the Futuhat records the description of Ibn al-Arabi’s, a prominent Sufi in 11th century, extraordinary vision of an encounter while circling the Kabah and his recounting of the experience in all its ramifications.
Dr. Winkel taught at the International Islamic University, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and was Senior Fulbright Scholar in Islamabad, Pakistan.
