Dr. Joachim Voss is associate dean of Academic Programs at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) College of Nursing. He earned the equivalent of a bachelor’s and master’s degree in nursing before coming to the United States as a Fulbright Scholar to pursue a PhD at the University of California, San Francisco. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the National Institutes of Health and later held a faculty position at the University of Washington.
He then joined Case Western Reserve University, where he served as director of the Evidence-Based Practice Institute and later led the doctoral program. He was subsequently recruited to his current leadership role at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
Dr. Voss is an expert in symptom management for people living with HIV. He has led the development of clinical guidelines on fatigue and sleep and contributed to training programs for global health leaders in Africa, China, and the US. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, a member of the Sigma Theta Tau Researcher Hall of Fame, and a recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care.
In 2025, Dr. Voss is serving as a Fulbright Specialist in Indonesia, working with Universitas Pembangunan Nasional Veteran Jakarta on workforce development, joint research, and academic exchange. During his three-week visit, he leads writing and grant workshops, explores collaborative research opportunities, and supports the signing of a partnership agreement between the two institutions.
