In March, ETA Natalie Suh held a workshop for SMK English Teachers across Banjarmasin. The one-hour workshop was focused on activities and resources teachers could use to make English learning in the classroom more fun and engaging for their students.
Thirty-six teachers from different SMK (vocational) schools participated in the workshop. The teachers came in excited and ready to learn new energizers, warmers, and games. They started with some ‘Would You Rather’ questions that got some conversation and energy flowing. Then, instead of having the teachers sit through the entire workshop, Natalie facilitated a few games that she hoped teachers would implement in the classroom. The classic game ‘Simon Says’ got teachers moving and laughing, while the ‘Alphabet Board Race’ revealed the teachers’ competitive spirits.
At the end of the workshop, teachers also had the opportunity to share ways they already made English fun in the classroom with the rest of the group. Overall, it was a great day of skill-building and resource-sharing.
Natalie Suh is teaching at SMKN 3 Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan.
