Indonesia’s rich biodiversity have attracted Fulbright Student Researcher Eric Gulson to come to the country. Despite having no prior experience of living in Indonesia, Eric braced himself to stay near the Popoyato-Paguat Forest in Gorontalo for his Fulbright project. His research, “Providing Artificial Nesting Cavities in Sulawesi: Opportunities for People and Birds,” aims to gather information of the breeding biology of two groups of birds – starlings and hornbills -, to test conservation methods on a unique bird system and to engage people, adding a dimension to human’s relationship with birds. Eric, who graduated from Cornell University, works with his counterpart from Universitas Indonesia’s Research Center for Climate Change. This project is funded by the Fulbright US Student Research award and slated to finish by September 2018.
