Farrah Hanifah pursues a doctorate in oceanography at the University of Rhode Island. She is interested in climate predictions relating to El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and variations in Indonesia Throughflow (ITF). Such research will help scientists and policymakers adapt to or mitigate disasters such as flooding or drought due to El Nino or La Nina.

She is a lecturer at Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), where she earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in oceanography.
