On August 28, ETA Anna Misenti led her first English conversation club of the semester at SMAN 1 in Padang Sidempuan. 24 enthusiastic students participated, and the warm-up “speed dating” conversation activity was a big hit. Students had a minute to discuss each question with a partner before having to switch partners and talk about a new question. The favorite question of the day was “If you could travel to any country in the world, where would you go?”. Answers ranged from South Korea to the UK, to traveling around the rest of Indonesia before traveling abroad. At the end of the afternoon’s activities Anna passed out Smarties chocolates and asked students to turn in a couple sentences about the specific topics they hope to learn about during the year. From the student responses it sounds like there will be many afternoons of singing American songs and discussing lyrics ahead!
