I Gde Made Indra Sadguna is studying ethnomusicology for his PhD at Florida State University. His research proposal is the life and work of one of Bali’s most famous drummers. He hopes to build up theoretical and stylistic knowledge of Balinese music, which he believes still lacks a well-constructed theoretical framework.

He is a lecturer at the Indonesia Institute of Art (ISI) Denpasar where he received his bachelor’s degree in traditional music (karawitan). He obtained his masters in traditional music research from ISI Solo, both his degrees were achieved with honors.
