Gema is a dentist at Pasir Sakti Health Center, located in a rural area of Lampung. She earned her Bachelor’s and professional degrees in Dentistry from Universitas Padjadjaran in 2012 and 2014, respectively. She also joined a program of the Ministry of Health that places medical doctors to serve in rural areas. This experience made her realize that many people cannot afford dental care. She wants to pursue a Master’s degree in Biomaterials Science to learn more about ceramic composites and how to use these materials for dental prosthesis. Upon completion of her degree program, she intends to return to Indonesia to become a lecturer and professional researcher. She wishes to help Indonesia to produce its own dental material and to make it more affordable.

For her Master’s degree program, Gema is placed at SUNY Buffalo to study Biomaterials.
