Several teachers at MAN Model 1 Manado invited ETA Caroline Kim to join them at a nearby village for the festivities of Maulid, the observance of Islamic prophet Muhammad’s birthday. The men beat drums and sang songs in Arabic, while the women and Caroline sat outside of the mosque and exchanged pastries and gossip. Neighborhoods then hauled in elaborate displays of fruit and candy, from which the children raced to collect as many goodies as possible.
Days prior, Caroline had shared about Thanksgiving with her school community. She is grateful for the opportunity to share about her American traditions, while participating in Indonesian ones.
Caroline Kim is currently teaching at MAN 1 Model Manado, North Sulawesi
