During the first week of December, ETA Alexandra Gwynn visited Kampung Warna-Warni with Ibu Mayang. Eight college students revitalized this community lacking in resources by partnering with a local paint company that donated 6,000 pounds of colorful paint. The village uses tourist money to improve standard of living and river sanitation; the initiative exemplifies the potential of project-based learning Alexandra teaches her students.
Alexandra also took a trip to West Java to visit Krakatoa and Ujung Kulon National Park. Since SMKN 9 Malang partners with UNESCO Green Schools and UNESCO declared Ujung Kulon National Park a World Heritage Site, Alexandra will teach students what she learned about the park’s conservation initiative.
Selamat Tahun Baru!
