Dr. Patricia Patrick was awarded a Fulbright US Scholar to conduct a research project entitled “Sumatran Traditional Healers: Leaders of Conservation Knowledge and Ecological Understanding” hosted by the Universitas Bengkulu.
The University of Bengkulu Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP – UNIB) hosted the 1st International Science and Education Summit (ISES) on 15-16 Oct 2022. The theme was “Transforming Science and Education in an Emerging Digitalization Era.” The goal of the Summit addressed the significance of integrating digital technology in science and education to develop resilience for future challenges and obtain sustainable growth. The Summit included four keynote speakers: Prof. Dr. Victoria Rau from National Chung Cheng University, Taiwan; Dr. Harris Shah Abd Hamid from University of Malaya, Malaysia; Prof. Dr. Marsigit, MA from Yogyakarta State University; and Prof. Arono, M.Pd from The University of Bengkulu. Along with the keynotes, there were six invited speakers: Dr. Patricia G. Patrick from Columbus State University, Dr. Gerald A Rau from National Chung Cheng University, Dr. Udi Samanhudi from Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University, and Prof. Rambat Nur Sasongko and Prof. Aceng Ruyani from The University of Bengkulu. The event was attended by 216 participants from 17 Indonesian institutions.
Dr. Patrick is a Fulbright Scholar (November 2022 – May 2023) and is completing her research project with colleagues at the University of Bengkulu. This is her second visit. She previously visited as a Fulbright Scholar for four months in 2019-2020. She left before completing her work due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Dr. Patrick is collaborating with Dr. Abdul Rahman and Dr. Arie Vatresia to record the knowledge of traditional healers and understand their role in managing conservation in rural communities. During the 1st ISES event, Dr. Patrick gave a workshop on best practices for university faculty to engage students in active classroom learning.
