During the last week of August, ETA Ryan Ulrich was invited to the 13th Jamboree Pursuit of the Hizbul Wathan Scouting Movement in Muhammadiyah Wotan, Panceng, Gresik. Ryan observed the carnival competition at Muhammadiyah Wotan, where students crafted miniature floats and dressed up in zany outfits. The students of Muhammadiyah Wontan road their carnival floats out into the town of Panceng holding a mini-parade, while locals cheered them on. Ryan followed the procession in a motorized becak, a type of three-wheeled pedicab in which the driver sits behind the passenger, accompanied by the head of Muhammadiyah 1 High School Gresik Ainul Mutaqqin SP. While Ryan stated he was initially bemused about the purpose of the Jamboree, he said that the enthusiasm of both the students and the town was too strong to ignore.
Ryan Ulrich is currently teaching at SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Gresik, East Java
