On September 13, 2019, ETA Madison “Maddy” Mele held her first kid’s English club for the children of teachers and community members. Maddy was very excited to receive 17 kids from ages four to 11 for their first meeting.

She taught colors in English, had the kids watch a fun video about colors and then each kid colored a coloring page or a color by number page. The kids had a wonderful time snacking on fish crackers and chocolate and of course coloring with their new English language skills.

The children in attendance were the sons and daughters of teachers at SMAN 1 Demak and some children of community members that have friends who are teachers at the school. Bu Pratiwi assisted Maddy in teaching the students and the younger children were accompanied by their parents. The children were shy at first but warmed up as the meeting continued. Maddy plans to hold Kids English Club every Friday during the prayer break between 12:30-1:30, with each meeting centered around a theme. Some themes for future kids’ clubs are farm animals, days of the week, and holiday celebrations.
