For the recount text unit, ETA Anna Ringheiser and her counterpart decided to use some texts that might be relevant and inspiring to the students. Anna chose some texts on teenage activists from all over the world, from the United States to Afghanistan to Sierra Leone.

The young activists have fought for the right to education for women and girls, protested against child marriage through rap music, spoken out for love and family unity for immigrants, and invented energy sources out of scrap materials. The students had time to go through a text on one of the activists in groups, and each group presented to the class on their activist. It was great for the ETA and co-teacher to see the students so engaged in a text and able to teach their classmates about what they learned.
