New Heights

For as long as he can remember ETA Conor Jackman has been afraid of heights. So when he first arrived at SMAN 1 Seluma early last August he paid little attention to the climbing wall prominently located in front of the school. Several of the student members in the climbing club, called ‘Novema,’ repeatedly invited ETA Conor to attempt the wall. He politely declined and reluctantly admitted his fear of heights.

The students persisted and eventually, ETA Conor decided to give it a try. He strapped on the harness, powdered his hands, and trembled in fear. Even though his hands ached and his mind raced he was hooked! Since that first day, ETA Conor has steadily progressed further up the wall. He has joined the dedicated few that commit to four demanding practices per week. He loves confronting both the physical and mental barriers that challenge him each time he starts up the wall. Most of all ETA Conor appreciates the tight-knit climbing community that welcomed him with open arms, and continually encourage him to face his fear.
