Nicholas Murray Husted is conducting research titled “Randai Since Reformasi: Changes in Minangkabau Folk Theatre 1996-2018.” This project will contribute to his PhD dissertation which looks at the changes in form and content that randai has undergone since Reformasi. Murray is working with artists and faculty at the Institute Seni Indonesia Padangpanjang in West Sumatra.

Murray has his MFA in Asian Performance and Western Acting from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa and is currently a PhD student there in Asian Theatre. He has trained in performance styles from around the world and is eager to learn as much as he can during his time in Indonesia.

His research will be completed in July 2020.
