On October 24, SMA Negeri 2 Bukittinggi hosted a series of competitions. The events included: debate, speech, Japanese language, student films, anime drawing and many more. They also had food vendors and a stall where people could try on Japanese Yukata. ETA Jillian Castoro was honored to be a judge in the English Speech competition.
In the second round, the students had a limited amount of time to prepare speeches about education in Indonesia. The students talked about the importance of education, finding your passion and technology in education. One of the first students who spoke emphasized how the future of a country depends on quality education. Jillian was truly inspired by the maturity and wisdom possessed by the students. Choosing just three winners was hard because all of the students were impressive. The student who won first place put an extra emphasis on finding your passion in life, even if you feel lost.
Jillian Castoro is currently teaching at SMAN 2 Bukittinggi, West Sumatra.
