ETA Shanze “Aisha” Tahir had a wonderful month of September. Her co-teachers, Pak Yoga and Bu Anita, and Aisha worked together to implement a lesson in which students created posters about the stories they had written about their favorite bands, going to getaways in Indonesia, and around the world. These stories and descriptive texts practiced their use of noun phrases. In the end, the students practiced presenting in groups by describing their process of brainstorming their ideas for the posters, their stories, and the illustrations in front of the class. It was very compelling to see the artistic talents and hear the engaging stories of the students for Aisha and the co-teachers.
ETA Aisha also had the chance to take part in the Muharram Parade that the school organized to celebrate the start of the Islamic New Year. Students and teachers dressed up in a wide variety of clothing, ranging from traditional dresses to school uniforms to cultural garb corresponding to the foreign language they were learning in school. They walked about three km around the city of Malang and sang chants to show their enthusiasm for their respective groups and classes. The parade concluded with a lively breakfast with the school community.
Shanze “Aisha” Tahir is currently teaching at MAN 2 Malang, East Java.
