Robert Valero is a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA) co-teaching English at SMA Santo Paulus Pontianak, Kalimantan Barat.

Robert earned a bachelor’s degree in science, technology, and international affairs from Georgetown University with an energy and environment concentration and a minor in Spanish.

He is passionate about environmental policy, language learning, and intercultural exchange. He has tutored English to learners in the Washington, DC area, studied in Taiwan, Indonesia, and Spain, and worked in Mexico. His interest in Indonesia began in high school when he participated in the National Security Language Initiative for Youth.

During his ETA grant, he is excited to engage with local culture through working with students, tasting and learning to cook Indonesian food, and interact with community members. Through English education, he hopes to expand the opportunities available to his students while fostering meaningful cross-cultural exchange.
