Upon returning to school, one of ETA Sophia Lockwood’s goals was to explore more of her “backyard.” Because Klaten is squished between two major cities, it often receives the misfortune of being seen as an unworthy place by many. Nevertheless, Klaten is a hidden gem surrounded by temples, waterways, and good eats.

This January, Sophia was invited and agreed to go tubing with a couple of the teachers at MAN 2 Klaten. Just a twenty-minute scenic drive away, a river flows through Klaten, and it has become the hub for many water parks. Needless to say, Sophia had the best time! It was great to spend time with members of her community who are normally busy with families, and it gave her some insight into what people in Klaten do for fun. The scenery was so beautiful and intimate that she was taken back by how close it was to her busy town. This is just one stop on Sophia’s journey of visiting more of her regency, and she’s excited to see what is next.
