Sofia Rahanserang

Sofia Rahanserang is an English teacher at SMA Negeri 4 Ambon. She earned her Bachelor’s degree at Universitas Pattimura in 2007. She has been teaching at this school in 2008. She participated in the Teacher Exchange Program in the Red Land of Alice Spring Northern Territory, Australia in 2011. She and other Indonesian teachers taught Indonesian language at Alice Spring Language Centre for Centralian Middle School and Senior High school for one year. She also taught at six primary schools with varieties level of students and backgrounds. She found this experience had improved not only her English speaking ability but also her teaching skills. She received an Excellent Report from the school committee for her teaching activities during the program. She has been the official interpreter for Ambon city Government  and a tourism ambassador to promote her beautiful Island “Ambon Manise” (The Beautiful Ambon) since 2012. She has strong passion in learning more about English teaching skills especially the Material development. Her motivation to apply for the ILEP is to develop more effective teaching skills.

Sofia is placed at James Madison University. She hopes to share her US experience and knowledge through formal or informal discussions with her fellow teachers upon her return to Ambon.
