Sophia earned her degree in Global Studies: Health, Development, and the Environment and a certificate in Intercultural Communication from the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC). After her first year at UMBC, she spent 5 weeks in Indonesia shadowing a midwife and teaching English at an orphanage. Sophia also spent several semesters teaching English to recent immigrants to the United States at a resource center in downtown Baltimore. Sophia is looking forward to returning to Indonesia to support her new community.

For her Fulbright ETA program, Sophia will be placed at West Sumatera where she will co-teach at SMAN 11 Padang.
