December was still a very busy month for MAN 1, despite formal class time having finished at the end of November. After two weeks of testing, the students hit the ground running with productions for a variety events from a band competition to a special ARATAMA event where they showcased a variety of student accomplishments in the arts as well as invited a popular Indonesian singer to perform on MAN 1’s own stage in the courtyard. It was a joyous occasion as everyone in the MAN 1 community was able rest after their hard work this semester while still enjoying their time with each other. ETA Catherine Krol was also invested in the variety of activities as she spent time socializing and speaking with her students as she made her rounds of the exhibits.

The rest of the month was marked by cultural events like attending weddings, visiting tourist attractions during a family gathering and of course some travel. As December comes and goes, Catherine and the English Department of MAN 1 Malang looks forward to coming back in Semester 2 with fresh ideas and enthusiasm for their students.
