Award Year: 2016

Walker DePuy is a PhD candidate in Integrative Conservation and Anthropology at the University of Georgia, Athens. He arrived in Indonesia in December for a research project “An Ethnographic Description of Conservation and Community Engagement in Berau, East Kalimantan.” With the project, Walker will work to provide baseline datasets of area life and landscape histories and create a contemporary oral history of the Berau Forest Carbon Program. He hopes that his work can help advance the design and implementation of REDD+ social safeguard policies and inform Indonesia’s efforts to engage communities in REDD+ activities.
