Monika is a lecturer at Universitas Atma Jaya Yogyakarta. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in biology from Universitas Atma Jaya Yogyakarta in 2013 and Master’s degree in tropical biodiversity and ecosystem from Vrije Universiteit Brussels and Universite Libre de Bruxelles in 2016. Her main interest is in ecology and conservation, in which she found that this could help people in Kalimantan to sustainably use and protect their forest, especially in the face of climate change.
Her proposed study is related to a history of forest fire and a method to detect, model, prevent and mitigate the impact of the forest fire with study area in the Gunung Palung National Park, West Kalimantan.
Upon completion of the program, she intends to return to Universitas Atma Jaya Yogyakarta and develop blue carbon credit program to provide an incentive for Indonesian to protect their forest while generating profits for local people, in collaboration with ASRI Foundation in West Kalimantan.
For her Fulbright Doctoral degree program in biology, Monika is placed at University of Oregon.
