Neelam graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a dual degree in Molecular Biology and Philosophy. While at the university, Neelam began working with the refugee and immigrant population in Pittsburgh, specifically with students learning English. Neelam discovered a passion for teaching English, especially to a wide range of ages, cultures and beliefs. While working with a non-profit organization, she explored the ways in which art can be a mode of expression that provides a useful tool for students learning English. These experiences brought Neelam to apply for the Fulbright ETA program. She is excited to bring what she has learned these past few years to her classrooms in Indonesia and to use art and language learning as a vehicle for her and her students to learn about one another’s cultures. In Indonesia, Neelam hopes to learn about the food, art, music and culture, all the while building close relationships with those around her.
For her Fulbright ETA program, Neelam will be placed at Bangka Belitung where she will co-teach at SMKN 3 Pangkalpinang.
