As the leaves on the trees at home changed colors and her friends reunited at their alma mater to celebrate homecoming, ETA Sophia Lopresti felt like the month of October was unfamiliar this year. She wanted to share some of her favorite things about fall with her English club at school. After receiving many old pictures from her mom, she made a presentation of all of her fall traditions with family and friends. The students’ eyes were wide while Sophia explained about homecoming, corn mazes, hayrides, pumpkin patches, and bonfires. They had so many questions! Sophia asked if they would like to carve pumpkins and the students said yes, but they didn’t yet realize that she meant today. Sophia lifted two heavy bags of pumpkins onto the table as the students began frantically organizing into groups to carve them. Each group took a before and after picture with their pumpkin. They were surprised how messy it was to carve pumpkins, but everyone still had a lot of fun!
Sophia Lopresti is currently teaching at SMAN 11 Padang, West Sumatra
