A New Teaching Role

A highlight of the second semester for Fulbright ETA Anna Misenti has been starting a community engagement project at a local preschool, where she now teaches one morning a week. So far, lessons have included topics such as feelings, where students sang “If You’re Happy and You Know It Clap Your Hands” and drew emotions, along with another along lesson on animals where students learned the classic song “Old MacDonald had a Farm” and created origami cats to decorate.

Most recently, students learned house vocabulary and made their own mini house crafts. The best moment for Anna this past month was returning to the preschool on Friday, March 29, after a two-week hiatus due to school breaks and the Fulbright East Asia Pacific conference.

As she entered through the preschool’s gate, a cluster of excited 4-year-olds yelling “miss Anna!” “miss Anna!” ran up to the gate to greet her and welcome her back to their classroom. Visiting the preschool to see all these young students’ smiling faces on Friday mornings is always a great way to end the week.

Anna Misenti is currently teaching at SMAN 1 Padangsidimpuan, North Sumatra
