For a weekend excursion, ETAs Nathan Danielson, Emily Thomas, Joe Miller, and Ammarah Rehman met at Lake Toba to enjoy December liburan. The weekend was a great opportunity to share experiences, challenges, and successes that each of them has had at their respective sites over the past five months.
The conversations gave them ideas and motivation to try new projects at their sites. Although they are all in Sumatra, they are each about five hours from one another and in different parts of Sumatra. Three of them are in North Sumatra, while Ammarah is in West Sumatra.
They relaxed and talked to local people from the Batak Toba tribe, where the people have a distinctively different culture than most of Indonesia from religion to their batik patterns. Perhaps the highlight of the trip was meeting with a local guide who showed them a local waterfall, overlooks, and a mountain surrounding Toba Lake.
Nathan Danielson is currently teaching at SMKN 1 Beringin in Deli Serdang, North Sumatra.
