Dancing Into the Night

Jam1 rev

This month, ETA Jam Sulahry focused on assisting local English teachers and engaging with students though creating a workshop with fellow sitemate, ETA Alex Bue. Jam wanted to focus on finding a way to improve English for as many students as possible. That included creating a workshop with both students and teachers to maximize the impact. Jam invited English Language Fellow from RELO, Yuta Otake, to Padang to aid in these workshops.

One of the best parts of this four-day workshop was teaching university students the Cupid Shuffle and Cha Cha Slide. By the end of these workshops, over 30 university students, 40 high school teachers, and 60 students were introduced to two popular American dances. Even though Jam didn’t end the workshop as a better dancer, he was able to look back on a successful event that involved local high schools, universities, teachers’ forum Padang, and an English Language Fellow.

Jam Sulahry is currently teaching at SMAN 15 Padang, West Sumatra
