At the beginning of April, ETA Amy Quirion and her student Desta flew to Jakarta together to attend the National WORDS Competition! Desta was the winner of the local WORDS Competition from SMAN 2 Balige and was thrilled at the chance to go to Jakarta for the first time. This was her first flight to a different island in Indonesia since she has lived in North Sumatra her whole life. Amy was excited to share this experience with her. Upon arrival, Desta was overwhelmed with the heat of Java since Lake Toba is always a cool and colder temperature. After arriving to the hotel, Desta quickly made friends and became close with her roommate who is also from North Sumatra. Although she did not place as a winner in the final WORDs competition, she was still overcome with joy and happiness with the new friends from all over Indonesia she made. She said it was one of the best moments in her life!
