Dr. Abie Besman is an executive news producer at Kompas TV and an assistant professor in journalism studies at Universitas Padjadjaran.

He received his bachelor’s degree in journalism from Universitas Padjajaran (UNPAD), a master’s degree in political communication from Universitas Islam Bandung, and a PhD in communications from UNPAD.

At Cornell University, he’s researching media in a project entitled “Media, politics, and anti-communism in Indonesia.” He would like to obtain data elucidating the processes of the communist stigma in Indonesia and the role of the United States in Cold War dynamics in the country.
