Dr. Kristi Stewart

At Universitas Negeri Medan, Dr. Stewart conducts multimedia writing research and teaches composition courses grounded in “glocal” theory, the affective turn in social justice pedagogies, and methods to disrupt and decolonize curriculum through storytelling.

Dr. Stewart was a Fulbright Scholar to Greece in 2023. A highlight of her experiences was being asked to provide a plenary address at the US Ambassador’s Residence in Athens. Dr. Stewart is currently assisting in designing a virtual reality curriculum through a peace literacy grant and project with middle school students in Detroit, Michigan. She also designs curricula and co-teaches classes that combine her US students with international partners, including EAP and ESOL pedagogical approaches. In 2021, Dr. Stewart won her campus teaching award for outstanding teaching of writing; she is also widely published in the aforementioned areas and has presented scholarly work at South African, European, American, and Asian conferences.

In 2024, Dr. Stewart was additionally awarded a grant for her “Digital StoryXchange: Connecting Classrooms, Cultures, and Continents in a Displaced World” project that she will start in 2025.
