ETA Kate Morrow and her co-teacher, Ibu Wiwik, started off the semester on a high note with a procedural text lesson. After having a great time at Mid-Year Enrichment Conference, they returned to SMKN 3 Pangkalpinang with a lot of energy and a strong, culturally relevant lesson! While teaching procedural text, they used a mix of Indonesian and American recipes, and station-style group activities to increase participation. Ibu Wiwik began the lesson by explaining the sequence of procedural text, and Kate took over to instruct the activity. Together, they and their students were laughing, moving around, and having fun as they learned important action verbs for giving instructions! The best part of the lesson was that many students were excited to answer questions by themselves rather than ask for help from their friends. Students asked questions about the metric system and the standard system of measurement in cooking, and they taught Kate about the most common ingredients in Indonesian food
