This month, ETA Emma Muth began teaching Pondok students at the mosque in her neighborhood. This project was started by last year’s ETA, and Emma was keen to continue this exciting project. The all-girls class is homeschooled at the Pondok and many live there full time.
So far, students have reviewed classroom commands and numbers. Additionally, students started writing introductions for themselves. Emma conducts her classes almost entirely in Indonesian, which she says has been excellent speaking practice as she continues learning the language with her tutor. The mosque is just a few steps down the street from Emma’s home, meaning she gets to interact with students every time she leaves her house. Chatting with the students and seeing them practice their new English skills is always something for Emma to look forward to after a day of teaching at SMAN 1. She is excited to watch the Pondok students progress throughout the rest of the year.
Emma Muth is currently teaching at SMAN 1 Temanggung, Central Java.
