First Day of Teacher’s English Club!

Nabeel1

One goal ETA Nabeel Ahmad had for his second semester in Indonesia was to start an English Club for teachers at SMAN 1 Limboto. Nabeel waited in the teacher’s conference room for about 30 minutes and thought no teacher would show up despite making announcements all week. As he was ready to leave, almost 25 teachers showed up, prepared to learn the English language. Nabeel began his first English lesson teaching introductions. Nabeel taught common phrases to introduce oneself and describing hobbies. A discussion on what each teacher did the day prior started in which Nabeel took the time to go over and act out each verb such as cleaning, cooking, shopping, eating, sleeping, studying, and more. After the discussion, the teachers took notes on how to introduce themselves to others and practiced speaking with their shoulder partner. The fun began when Nabeel played an introduction game in which each teacher stated one fact about themselves in a circle of on looking peers. If other teachers can relate to the fact, those teachers walk to another chair in the circle. The last standing teacher stands in the middle and states his/her fact and the game continues. Teachers were laughing the entire game as teachers tried to race to an empty chair!
