This month the students at SMAN 5 were able to get creative in the classroom. With the help of ETA Emma Barnes, students were instructed on the correct format and information to include in an invitation. Using her own birthday as an example, she described how to be concise and include things such as date, time, location, recipient, and R.S.V.P. information.
Emma provided paper, markers, glue, scissors, stickers, and ribbons and asked students to make their own invitation any way they wanted, as long as it included the points described in the lesson. Emma has been teaching this particular lesson to her different classes throughout the month, but on this particular day it was Halloween, so students were encouraged to make their invitations Halloween themed to celebrate the occasion.
It was super fun for Emma to see her students get excited to begin the activity and scramble to put the finishing touches on their creations as the bell was ringing to signal the end of class. She has really enjoyed incorporating more “hands on” activities such as this one in the classroom and looks forward to doing more in the future.
Emma Barnes is currently teaching at SMAN 5 Padangsidimpuan, North Sumatra
