Hari Guru at SMAS Nurul Ilmi

November 25 in Indonesia is known as Hari Guru or Teachers’ Day. This is a day where many schools host some form of celebration for their teachers to appreciate their work. ETA Luke Losie was happy to be invited and participate in the Hari Guru celebration of SMAS Nurul Ilmi in Padangsidimpuan. To the joy of most of the students at Nurul Ilmi, there was no class on Teachers’ Day. In fact, from Wednesday until Saturday, the Nurul Ilmi campus was teeming with activity and excitement. Students and teachers from the junior high school joined the festivities at the high school, creating a lively atmosphere.

From Wednesday to Friday, games such as volleyball, futsal, tug of war, and badminton were hosted by the student council. Teams of teachers competed against one another, and ETA Luke Losie was assigned to play volleyball. Every game was accompanied by the applause of the students who lined the school’s central field chanting their teachers’ names. The Teachers’ Day fell on Saturday, starting with an extended flag ceremony. Later, awards were given to teachers for various achievements and competitions they won. The school day ended early with all of the SMA teachers eating at a restaurant in a garden and participating in some karaoke. Teachers’ Day was a novel experience for Luke and will surely be one he’ll never forget.

Luke Losie is currently teaching at SMAS Nurul Ilmi Padangsidimpuan, North Sumatra.
