Last Saturday at SMAN 1 Sedayu was a Teachers’ Day celebration for the books. Teachers and their families gathered at school for a heartwarming event that kicked off with a pump walk around the village, with a traditional feast that included bakso (meatball soup with noodles), boiled peanuts, and bananas.
After the feast began the real party. One by one, teachers belted out their karaoke song of choice. There was no holding back; as it turns out, (mostly) all of the teachers at SMAN 1 Sedayu are fantastic singers! ETA Allison Gross gave her most heartfelt rendition of the classic American campfire hit, “There Was A Great Big Moose,” and supported her fellow teachers by participating as a backup dancer to their singing. It was a day full of laughing, sweating, and good energy. Soon, raffle prizes were called out, and Allison scored two liters of cooking oil, laundry detergent, and a cash prize.
The enduring connections between teachers and their families remained noticeable during the celebration of Teacher’s Day at SMAN 1 Sedayu. The festivities at the school were a living testament to the school’s lively spirit and uniquely joyous educators, and it felt quite special to celebrate the gifted teachers who bring passion Day in and Day out to the classroom!
Allison Gross is currently teaching at SMAN 1 Sedayu, Yogyakarta.
