International Homestay

ETA Nitika Johri enjoyed her travels and break in December, but was happy to return to a full homestay in December. Her homestay in Salatiga became an international house as two Australians and another American moved in.

Nitika was initially welcomed into her Indonesian homestay in August by Ibu Eny, Pak Herni, Ayes, and Ninon. The house now occupied eight people, and together they practiced Indonesian, learned how to cook different Indonesian dishes, tried new tropical fruits, and played cards and Bananagrams together in the evenings.

Nitika and the other Westerners shared some common English-based games, and Ayes and Ninon shared Indonesian card games. Nitika especially enjoyed sharing the different games they had learned, and used simple counting and word games to apply Indonesian to a fast-paced environment. She found it very fun to get together and play games with people of all different language levels, and proved enjoyable and effective enough to incorporate in her classroom in the future!

Nitika Johri is currently teaching at SMAN 1 Salatiga, Central Java
