For her Fulbright Doctoral Degree Scholarship, Laurentia Sumarni studies foreign, second, and multilingual language education at the Ohio State University. Her main interest is in translation in language teaching, especially incorporating translation as an approach, method, technique, and testing tool.

She is a lecturer at Universitas Sanata Dharma in Yogyakarta, where she received her bachelor’s in education. She received a master’s degree in translation studies from the Australian National University.
