Making the Moments Count

February  was a busy, productive, and heartwarming month for ETA Avery Erickson and her school. Avery and her co-teachers curated lesson plans for students to prepare them for upcoming job interviews and end-of-year examinations.

One particularly successful lesson in the Beauty and Space program included reading and navigating a map and giving guests accurate directions. Avery and her co-teachers also led a hide-and-seek instruction game, where students were instructed to hide objects around the classroom and give directions to their partners to find them before time was up.

Aware of the approaching end of the grant, ETA Avery also strove to spend as much quality time as possible with her students and teachers outside of school while exploring the wonderful city of Solo. Together, they explored the Saturday night market in downtown Surakarta, attended a traditional Javanese dance performance at Solo city hall, explored neighborhoods dedicated to batik-making, and watched local fishermen as the sun set over a nearby lake.

Avery Erickson is currently teaching at SMKN 4 Surakarta, Central Java.
