This month, ETA Jam Sulahry had the opportunity to sit down with his headmaster one-on-one. This was a huge accomplishment because Jam’s headmaster is always on the road, attending school conferences, meeting with potential teachers, and advocating for SMAN 15. Out of the blue, Jam received a text to come meet the headmaster at a rumah makan, restaurant. Quickly, Jam jumped on the opportunity and was pleasantly surprised when he saw his headmaster’s husband, son, daughter-in-law, and grandson. They had an incredible time sharing stories and pictures over the past couple of months. Jam had some reservations about being able to have a fluid conversation due to the language barrier, but he quickly realized how much his Indonesian had improved over the past seven months, and how rich the conversations were. Afterwards, he was able to see the house that they have lived in for over 24 years. Jam loved sharing stories about family, friends, and culture while making some new friends!
