Moving Towards an Enjoyable English Classroom (2)

In February, ETA Katia Oltmann was excited to be a keynote speaker at a workshop for English teachers in Gorontalo. The workshop was titled “Moving Towards an Enjoyable English Classroom” and focused on presenting ways that English teachers of all age levels could make their classes more engaging for students. Katia’s presentation was about reading and writing, and she focused on using stories to teach critical thinking skills.

In addition to being a presenter, Katia also enjoyed being a student at the conference. She learned a lot from English Language Fellow Alicia Bradley’s presentation on enlivening textbook materials, and ETA Ian Morse’s presentation on listening and speaking activities. She plans on incorporating activities that she saw in both their workshops into her future lesson plans. The conference was also a wonderful way to meet English language learners in Gorontalo; Katia enjoyed spending time with college students from Universitas Negeri Gorontalo and high school students from SMA Limboto.

Katia Oltmann is currently teaching at SMA Eben Haezar, Manado, North Sulawesi
