Nicholas Navin

Nicholas is a recent graduate from the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA. He earned a degree in sociology and anthropology, and also studied global development studies and Japanese. While in school he enrolled in a year of studying Bahasa Indonesia and also participated in a three-week anthropological field school to Jakarta and Yogyakarta with other American students and with a number of YSEALI (Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative) students. Following his time in Indonesia, Nicholas culminated his time in university with a development studies thesis titled Indonesia and English: Understanding Globalization Methods Through the Medium-of-Instruction in Education, in which he aimed to understand the medium-of-instruction in Indonesian schools and resulting development outcomes.

After four years as a Japanese teacher at a youth immersion summer program, Nicholas is excited to move to teach English in a classroom and is also excited for the lessons, challenges, and experiences he will have as an ETA placed at MAN 1 in Payakumbuh, West Sumatra.
